Master wire wrapper Joanne Huspek is a woman of boundless energy and many talents. Before retiring, while still running a chain of driving schools with her husband Brad, she became a published novelist in addition to being a budding violinist and avid gardener. Naturally curious and always looking for a new passion, in about 2009 Joanne’s curiosity led her to jewelry making.
“I was interested in wire wrap (the look of it) so I decided to take a class. Most of my classes have been taken at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC), mostly with Mary Kernahan. I’ve also taken some online classes but find it’s easier to grasp techniques in person.
The best class I have taken was probably the beginner wire wrap class at BBAC. It really lit a fire. I would go home after learning how to make wire rings and make 100 more before the next class.” (Former teacher note: She is NOT exaggerating!)
“I’m most fond of wire weaving. There’s more of a fabric feel to finished pieces. I wish I were more comfortable with the torch but no. Still trying. I miss the seminars at with MSG. I also miss the BBAC.”
Joanne has been a member of MSG for over 10 years and has exhibited with MSG at the Ann Arbor Art Fair in the past.
“I have many favorites pieces that I have made but this is my favorite - sterling silver wrapped with fine silver, rose and yellow gold filled and semi-precious stones.”
Is your work for sale or on exhibit anywhere? My web site is twistedandwired.com. I now own a bed and breakfast with my husband in Colorado and have turned the bottom floor into a gallery featuring local artists. I display and sell my work there as well.
