Create rich surfaces on your jewelry and objects using soldering skills and a rolling mill. Through demonstration and practice we will sweat solder gold sheet, wire and bimetal onto sterling and argentium, and investigate the potential of 18k or 22k bimetal and keum-boo. Inlaid sheet will be made using different metals to create a multicolored patterned metal sheet, or ‘pseudo mokume’. We will develop patterns by soldering various metals and designs to a base sheet and rolling it down. Excess solder is removed and your pattern sheet is ready to roller print, fabricate, form or patina to bring out the colors and pattern of the metals. We will work at a fast pace in this one day workshop, doing demos and hands on as time allows.

Bio: Idelle Hammond-Sass is a metalsmith and jewelry designer in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She exhibits and sells her work through wholesale and retail craft fairs such as ACC Baltimore and the Ann Arbor Art Fair, retail galleries and Guild.com. She has a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and has worked as a designer doing rendering, metal models and wax carving for the trade prior to having her own studio.

Cost: $60 members / $85 non-members / $40 student members

Materials: $ 25 (Includes: 20g sterling sheet, gold, 18k bimetal, copper and nickel.)
